A reduction of the environmental harmful effect due to the manufacturing process as well as resources and energy conservation is a strategic target of the Mill’s activity in the ecological field. 

The state-of-the-art technological equipment has been installed at the Mill in conformity with all environmental requirements. This modern equipment meets all the requirements of the European standards, related to the pollutant emissions.

The main production facility is Electric-Arc Furnace of Danieli production. It is equipped with the  modern fume treatment plant with fume effluent being treated in the bag filters.

The Mill has made several design decisions in technology and energy conservation. The installation of the new transformer for the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace has not only increased their capacity but has ensured the reduction of the specific consumption level of natural gas, oxygen and graphitized electrodes. Commissioning of the new steam generating unit has enabled to cut essentially the utilities costs. 

In 2008 DEMZ introduced and certified the environmental management system in the conformance with the requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001:2004. The first compliance audit resulted in the prolongation of the certificate validity.
